Monday night I was excited to host songstress Robin Coomer into the Radio Valencia studio, sharing a few new tunes from her upcoming solo release. As always her voice is in top form. Really, there's nothing quite like it.

From Robin's days in Birdsaw, through to LOOP! Station, Shake Well (er, ummm, that's actually a relative of hers I believe???), to inspired collaboration in Secret Songs, and now to a long overdue (IMHO) solo effort, due out this spring.

Check out my interview with Robin the first hour, as well as a few new tracks she shared.

The remainder of the night continues my focus on great female artists in celebration of Women's History Month.

Enjoy and please share.

Radio is my creative outlet. Every week I get a two hour empty canvas on which I can paint tunes that allow the listener to travel to a time and space where they can float, unaware of the responsibilities that lay around them, waiting to be picked up once again following the closing of my show. I hope you have the ability to lay down your weary lists, and just listen for a short time.

We all need to take back some of our precious time. The last thing I want to do is go to my death bed saying "if I only crossed one more item off that list". Now is the time to live, and yes, of course be your responsible self. But may I please request that every Monday night, between 8-10PM you set it all down and pick up a little bit of Hell?

Thanks a ton. I think this show is a perfect example of what I can offer from week to week. I think I'm counting ten distinctive genres spread throughout this playlist. And the second hour has a few live cuts sprinkled in for good effect.

Take a look, take a listen, and join me Monday at 8. You never know what you're going to hear, and I like it like that.

Enjoy.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS SHOW!!! It's my first week back in the studio in about a month and I am really rusty. Too many DJ errors to count. Dang! The music kicks ass, and I am pretty funny to listen to while screwing everything up, royally, but other than that this is without a doubt a throw away program. Seriously. At the very least you should speed through my mic breaks. No one should have to sit through such blather. Ugh.

That being said, just take a look at that set list below! Damn! What a fine and diverse selection.

I'm back in the studio tonight, as far as I know at this hour. I do have kids, so anything can get in the way of a good time. Er, I mean, I love having a good time with my kids. They're a blast (insert thumb up sign here).

New music from Goggs, Oh Sees, Tropical Fuck Storm, Sleep, and Ty Segall & White Fence.

Enjoy.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #253: Enough Already

Are you serious?!?!? How many does this make now, something like a bakers dozen? Do we get a prize if we hit 20 by March? What's the deal with all this celebrity death? And it's all the good one's too! Of course many of our recent passers-on probably shouldn't have made it out of the 1970s, so it's no wonder they're all drifting off of this mortal coil in their 70s, but still...

Last week we lost two more solid statesman. Maurice White, the founder of Earth Wind and Fire; and Dan Hicks, drummer, singer and songwriter of, who were to be considered the FIRST of the true San Francisco psychedelic bands, The Charlatans, and of his own band Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks.

I did a tribute to both on this evening. They are labeled for your convenience.

There's some new music from local rockers Older Sun, and Texas ass-whoopers, Honky, featuring Butthole Surfers' bassist J.D. Pinkus. Both are off of brand spankin' new 7" 45s on Valley King Records. I got both, and many more at Thee Parkside last weekend watching Dale Crover's side project Altamont.

So who's next on the list to go? I got a good amount of lists for my (not always) annual Run for the Lilies, and so far no one mentioned has passed away. No one had Antonin Scalia, but I'm pretty sure not many people I know will miss that guy too much. And he didn't record any songs that I cared for anyway.

Keep on keepin' on, fly like an eagle, and let choice be your voice.

Enjoy.

It's always a pleasure to host local bands, and this week we have a serious contender for future-massively-awesome-band-of-Amerika award, Everyone is Dirty. Lead singer, Sivan, dropped by to talk up the band, and play us some tunes from their latest release, Dying is Fun.

Second hour is a mix bag, and a whole lot of fun. Take a look at the playlist and click on the links above to stream or download the show.

It's labor day, and I'm laboring for you! Be grateful, dammit!

A Season in Hell #122: Just Say Yes

There comes a time in every young mans' life when he feels the call of the wild, the wind through the trees, the voice of the angels, calling him to unknown adventures across the lands and the seas. I am not a young man. I was once, and when I was I was always on the hunt for an adventure. And I always found it.

Be careful what you wish for, my father would tell me, because it will come true.

He was right about that. Now that I'm a bit older I don't need to go out looking for adventure, I've built up so much adventure capital, that it come looking for me. I've always been a "yes man", which has gotten me into more positive predicaments than negative ones. Can you imagine that? I know that many of you are reading this right now, and you're saying to yourself "every time I say "yes" I end up regretting it". Not me. Every time I say "yes" it takes me to the most unbelievable places. Whether it's a smoking hot show, or a smoking hot woman (sorry if I offend), or an island in the Caribbean, or a once in a lifetime job, or the the ability to meet a musical hero of mine, saying YES has taken me there.

Oh yes, I have had a multitude of trials and tribulations. Don't even get me started on that, but really, in the end, it's the amazing adventures that I've been open to that will define my life. The one constant through it all is music. Music is my life source, and radio is my drug of choice. Shows like the one I did tonight, prove to me once again, that radio is an empty canvas just waiting for the artist to fill it up. Tonight I am your artist. Come enjoy the show.

Just say yes.
