John Hell's Live Bootleg Bonanza - Monday 6-8PM Pacific - PJ Harvey (1998) & Beat Farmers (1987)

John Hell's Live Bootleg Bonanza

Monday's 6-8PM Pacific

Nothing like leaving your external hard drive full of most of your digitized music in your classroom on the Friday before a week off. That was fun. However, it did make me look on other devices to see what music I missed. Low and behold here's this phenomenal PJ Harvey show at the Avalon in Boston from November 2, 1998, broadcast live on the legendary WBCN-FM that will just knock you off your feet. I forgot how much I do adore Miss Polly Jean Harvey and band. Damn, this show rocks hard.

Lineage: WBCN 104.1 FM live broadcast > Yamaha RX-500U receiver > Naka. BX 125 cassette recorder (dolby off) > Maxell XLII-S 90 minute cassette > Tascam 112 > soundforge (16 bit 44.1 khz wav) > flac 8 (sb's aligned)

Since the PJ Harvey show is 90 minutes long, I needed to throw in something more of a tease than the whole meal. For that there's nothing better than Beat Farmers. Boy oh boy I used to love seeing Country Dick Montana (not to be confused with Handsome Dick Manitoba) when they used to make it up to the Bay Area from San Diego. It's really hard to believe they were a San Diego band. I mean, what does San Diego even sound like? Have they ever had a music scene? You would think I would have a clue about this, but apparently I do not. Somebody please school me on what I've been missing. In the meantime, I have the middle of a great Beat Farmers show from Santa Cruz, at the end of a months-long tour on November 20, 1987 at the Catalyst. I love the comments they make about this being the end of the tour. And the music isn't half bad. HA!

Lineage: Monitor soundboard feed with 2 Crown PZM microphones over stage, 2 Nakamichi cm300 microphones over stage and one other ambient mic. mounted on balcony railing. Live matrix mix > Sony auto-reverse cassette deck > Dolby B encoded Maxell XLII-S master.
