I don't know what got into me but whatever it was I just had to get it out during this show. It's almost exclusively from the golden era of psych and rock and roll from the late 60s until about 1974. And it's a mix of European, Middle Eastern, and Latin American bands. Thee Oh Sees and Dungen are both in there so you can hear their influences. This was such a fun show to put together, I think you'll enjoy each tune.

I'm guessing you haven't heard of most of these bands. I talk them up between sets, so if you're looking for any info, listen up! It's a safe bet I haven't played 85% of these artists on my show, ever. And I'm talking since my start in 1988. OK, maybe 75%. Oh wait, 65%?

I also gave tickets away to another epic upcoming show at the Bottom of the Hill in SF. If you live in the Bay Area and you want to go see a show, you should be tuned into Radio Valencia regularly. Many of our shows have tickets to give to you! Or you! Or maybe even you!

Enjoy and please share.

Well here ya go. So many songs. So many great tunes for you to note and then go purchase, and perhaps, if these bands are still around, go and see perform live and in concert, like I did last Saturday, at The Chapel, seeing Roky Erickson.

Oh Roky, you're wonderful, but it might be time to hang it up. Yes, we are going to miss you, but that was rough. The sound was great! The band was great, but it's hard seeing a musical hero, who has already had his boughts with some serious mental health issues, sit up there forgetting not only the words, but also the melody of some of his most-cherished songs. We love you, Roky, and we're thrilled you found a pathway to health over the past 20 years.

Tune in tonight, 8-10PM for more new music and music that's new to you.

Enjoy.

Little Lauson Hell isn't so little anymore. Dang. What happened to my sweet, little, lovable, goofy little girl? Oh right, she's a teenager now. Ugh. Lauson has been joining me twice a year on my show for the past seven years. I've always enjoyed witnessing her musical evolution. Her love of The Beatles continues, but it's her discovery of artists like Frank Sinatra that really surprises me. At 14 I would expect her to listen to more pop-centered tunes, but then I remember that she's my daughter, and that I play a lot of alternative genres and artists at home. She did remind me that I don't play enough contemporary hip-hop. I need to do something about that.

I do take issue with her flagrant LIES about my love for Foo Fighters. Let me go on the record by stating unequivocally that I do not like the Foo Fighters. If I did, you wouldn't hear the end of them on my show. I don't understand why they're as popular as they are. How the hell do they sell out stadiums? It doesn't make any sense! Don't get me wrong, I think Dave Grohl (whom my brother-in-law thinks I look like) is talented and funny, but that doesn't make me a fan of the band!

Lauson enjoys getting my goat. I wonder where she got the sarcastic sense of humor from? Hmmmmm.....

We talk about music, high school, attending live shows at a young age, her friends, and just what makes a teenager tick.

Back to the music. I've denoted Lauson's selection with a "L" next to the track. It was nice to hear her say that she could co-host with me every week. Glad to see she's got the radio bug. She'll be back again this summer.

Enjoy.
