I hate being late getting my shows up. It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I have to make the time to fit this in. And I really want to give you quality, always. How am I doing? Can you give me a grade? I can take the criticism. I have to. We all have to. What kind of world would this be if we never made ourselves available to constructive criticism? Can you imagine if our government and corporate leaders never listened to quality advice, that may or may not counter their own ideas? Seriously, can you even imagine??? I'm waiting for an old fashioned video screen wipe that makes it appear that we're entering a dream sequence, where we see some fictionalized TV character showing us the many tropes of what it's like when they fail to listen to good advice. You may be doing this too.

Maybe I should just stick to my lane? In this case my lane is music. This show it got sweet and loud. Sometimes loud is cathartic. We need to purge some energy time and again. I was reading recently when you can't get your child to focus, get them to be physically active; it allows them to get the distractions out, so they can focus on the task at hand, with minimal negative emotion. Let's look at this two hour show as a good sprint around the block.

I'm back on Monday night after a rolling blackout took out the station last week. New music coming your way with KnightressM1 and others. Tune in.

Enjoy.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #383: Do You Like To ROCK?!?!?!

I like to rock. I like to do a lot of things. I like to get mellow with some swinging jazz. I like to get deep with some heart-felt blues and soul. I like to get my groove on with some sticky funk. But my go to is guitar-driven, vocals-howlin', drums-poundin' ROCK! I'll be the first to admit I have a tad bit of aggression that builds up from time to time. Instead of taking it out on my loved ones, I prefer to take it out on my music collection.

This show has a lot of rock that helped my through 2019. I don't think I'm going to host a Best of 2019 show, so this one will need to do. Almost all these tracks were released this year. There's also some other tasty treats, including a recent addition to my live music library, that doesn't rock, but certainly soothes.

It's also been a year already since the death of Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks, so I not only have a favorite tune of theirs, but a brilliant cover by Le Butcherettes, a band you really must see live.

I'm headed to some record stores this weekend. I can't wait to share what I find on my show next Monday. Tune in!

Enjoy.

Although Radio Valencia as an entity does not identify with a political ideology, we don't censor our DJs when it comes to them voicing what they believe in. When I was involved with San Francisco Liberation Radio (2000-2003), we were very vocal about our stance against the Bush administration and its march to war. We were so loud that it got us shut down by the FCC, with guns blazing. Fun times.

Monday night LawWorksAction.org streamed a 90 minute live reading of parts of the Muller Report, as recited by professional actors. I thought it important that as a show host/producer I have the responsibility to make this available to my listeners. I did not play the program straight through, beginning to end. Instead, I played to ~15 minute sections, peppered through my show.

When is the last time you read the US Constitution? Have you ever read it? Have you ever discussed it? Are you aware that every action that takes place in our nation has a direct connection to this document?

As for the music, it rocks!

Enjoy.

Well here ya go. So many songs. So many great tunes for you to note and then go purchase, and perhaps, if these bands are still around, go and see perform live and in concert, like I did last Saturday, at The Chapel, seeing Roky Erickson.

Oh Roky, you're wonderful, but it might be time to hang it up. Yes, we are going to miss you, but that was rough. The sound was great! The band was great, but it's hard seeing a musical hero, who has already had his boughts with some serious mental health issues, sit up there forgetting not only the words, but also the melody of some of his most-cherished songs. We love you, Roky, and we're thrilled you found a pathway to health over the past 20 years.

Tune in tonight, 8-10PM for more new music and music that's new to you.

Enjoy.

Sometimes absence does make the heart grow fonder. It's been a few weeks, I know, but don't let that be a reason you forget about dear old Hell. Taking time off allows me to amass more music to share with you. Most of the music on this show I haven't shared with you before, so count yourself lucky.

I hope you're tuning in with Shazam running. Or at the very least grab a pen and paper!

I paid tribute to word jazz stalwart Ken Nordine throughout the show. There's also new music from Frisco, and Tae. It's also the 50th anniversary of the Allman Brothers Band, and I have just cracked open the Holy Grail for live Allman's. I'll have more to share with you over time.

I'm not on this coming Monday night (family duty calls), but the after I should have Little Lauson Hell in the studio with me, and new music from Ty Segall (live) and OCS (live!!!), and whatever Lauson throws on. Her tastes have really evolved since last she was on a few months back.

Tune in Monday's 8-10PM (PDST)

See you on the "radio"
