The holidays are upon us, whether we like it or not. Seasonal affective disorder? Raise your hands. Anyone? Anyone? Not me, to be honest, but that doesn't mean I don't feel ya, for those who get down about this time of year. Strangely, when the clock turned back a few weeks ago, seeing it get dark early hit me in a way I don't recall it ever striking me before. I did not like it.

It's sunny today. I should really get out in this, but I'm off work all week, and this couch is super comfy, and I'm not wearing any pants.

Pants are for suckers.

So yeah, I'm off all week because I'm an educator. A teacher. My lessons last an eternity, which is how long it takes to grade all these damn papers! I'm not here to turn you all on to the extra amount of work us teachers bring home; I don't wish to depress you all and add to your SAD. Oh hey, wow, did the DSM mean to make the disorder spell out SAD as an acronym when they named it? WTF DSM? Ironic joke indeed. And the joke is on us all it would appear.

Anyway, eat as much as you want and don't put on any pants for the next month.

And enjoy this show! I was actually training to new Radio Valencia staff members, so I hope this came out OK. Since I was off work I took the time to not only pull some records I wanted to share, but I also put them in some kind of order that made sense to me. I don't often do that.

Take a look at the playlist that follows, and click the link above to listen in.

Enjoy and please share.

Gobble gobble.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS SHOW!!! It's my first week back in the studio in about a month and I am really rusty. Too many DJ errors to count. Dang! The music kicks ass, and I am pretty funny to listen to while screwing everything up, royally, but other than that this is without a doubt a throw away program. Seriously. At the very least you should speed through my mic breaks. No one should have to sit through such blather. Ugh.

That being said, just take a look at that set list below! Damn! What a fine and diverse selection.

I'm back in the studio tonight, as far as I know at this hour. I do have kids, so anything can get in the way of a good time. Er, I mean, I love having a good time with my kids. They're a blast (insert thumb up sign here).

New music from Goggs, Oh Sees, Tropical Fuck Storm, Sleep, and Ty Segall & White Fence.

Enjoy.

You just never know what you never know, so stop worrying yourself to death about the unknown unknowns. You don't know what you don't know and you don't know how to articulate it.

This and much much less on my recent Monday night show. Just take a look and a listen and you too will discover that nothing, and I do mean nothing beats the tremendous amount of disappointment you are about to endure. You'll be heard to say "well, I can't get those two hours back", and "I never realized I needed something less".

Yes folks, it's quite amazing to witness such a diversity of absurdity in a non-event such as this one right here.

Feel free not to click on the links associated with unabashed microcosm of what is NOT an example of the American Dream. And that's with a capital A and D!

Next Monday new music from Wooden Shjips and Sleep!!!

Yours in apathy,

I took off for a mid-week trip after this show. This is why you are seeing it so late in the week. That's just the way I roll.

No special on this night, just some fine tuneage. And just take a look! I was obviously looking to mix it up a bit. These sets are totally worth your time to check out. You know you want to. Right? RIGHT?!

New music from The Melvins and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. A brilliant cover from Camper van Beethoven (thanks Doug), some metal, a couple 1967 leftovers, some psych, some glitter-pop, a few choice covers, and a David Lynch tune to boot!

A few specials I have in mind for the next few months include a covers special, and my third John Zorn special to soothe your earholes.

Tune in Monday 8-10PM (PDST) for another tasty treat on Hell's Kitchen Radio.

Enjoy.

There's free-form radio and then there's FREE-FORM RADIO! I've been doing this too long to stop now. There are times when I'm driving late at night, pushing the buttons on my FM radio, thinking to myself "why am I hearing the same songs at this late hour that I would hear in the middle of the day? Shouldn't the late hours be the time when radio stations stretch out, try something new, or perhaps even a deeper album cut? Isn't this the time when they can play a 20 minute track? Isn't this the perfect opportunity for them to try out a new, local artist who deserves the airplay? WHY AREN'T THEY DOING THIS? And why haven't I written a letter? Tweeted? Made a call? "

If I was given a chance to program KSAN (aka:107.7 The Bone) I would make "Big Daddy" Tom Donahue proud. That man must be seriously spinning in his grave to see what has happened with his love child. Some say Steven Seaweed is an institution. I say that he's been phoning it in for about two decades now. No offense, Steven. You've made a great career out of being super excited to be playing another AMAZING Van Hagar track, and having people call out the WEEDMAN! I've worked in commercial radio. They hand you the playlist and tell you what you are and are not allowed to say and play. Any deviation from the norm and you're out the door. All to please the listeners. Yeah right. It's all about the sponsors. There is no longer any art or risk-taking in the land of mainstream radio. And it's been this way for a good 25 years now; perhaps longer.

Tonights show is all over the aural spectrum. Brand new music from Boss Hog, and CFM has a new LP out as well. There's some sizzling rock, toe-tappin' country, Japanese Psych, nouveau Americana, Seattle Grunge (I hate that term), and American Punk. I'm sure I left out something. Take a look at the playlist below and click on the stream or download above to enjoy this program, sure to please even the finickiest music lovers in your home.

Next Monday night is my 300th show on Radio Valencia. That's a lot of shows. I have no clue what I have planned, but it promises to be worth your time. Tune in 8-10PM at http://radiovalencia.fm

See you on the radio.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #298: I Feel Cleansed

Stream the Hell Water, HERE!

Monday night I filmed my show on FB live. A few weeks back my guest, and talented chartreuse, Phat Man Dee did this and we had over 100 people tuned in. Why not tonight? Then again, why the hell would anyone want to watch a radio show? Really, there is nothing exciting about this. OK, I do a bit of a song and dance during my show when I'm off mic, that's for sure. Other than that???

Lots of rockin' about on this night. New music spread throughout, including new Zig Zags, Crystal Fairy (Melvins side project), Ty Segall, Blind Shake, Meatbodies, King Gizzard, and Red Fang. Also, it's the 50th anniversary of the release of the first Doors record (feel old yet?).

I throw in some covers from Thee Headcoats (did you know Billy Childish was a renowned book translator?), Bob Seger (there's a good story I tell in there), Nicki Bluhm, Minutemen, and Bonnie "Prince" Billy.

I'm like a walking music encyclopedia for this show. Check it out and share it far and wide. I probably won't make it a habit of doing the FB live thing, because who wants to watch a DJ stand around picking their nose trying to decide what to play next?

Enjoy.
