Hell's Kitchen Radio #262: I'm So Glad

Stream Myriad of Sounds, HERE!

Listen into all my shows here, or just scroll down

From last Monday, because you know you were waiting with baited breath...

Just a brief look at the playlist below and you'll see why I consider radio the art of the segue. So many genres packed into this two hour show. And a tasty 25 minute Grateful Dead treat, celebrating a brilliant show from 39 years ago! New music from Charles Moothart, the Melvins, Owl, and something you've never heard before from Boris. There's local music and music that's new to you. Something for the entire family. I wouldn't play Avenue D for the kids though.

Ooh, I even too a request! I so rarely do that. I guess I was just in the mood. I usually have so much music with me that I want to share, that I don't make time for your requests. What if I do an all-request show? Would you like that? May I do that just for little ol' you?

If you know me, then you know how much I absolutely LOVE supporting local bands. I've interviewed countless artists over the years, and their stories are too much fun. Monday night I was lucky enough to have two members of local indie scene-sters,  Scissors for Lefty with me. Bryan and Eric proved to be super friendly, and ready to talk about SfL's roller coaster ride of the past few years. This band is no flash in the pan. They've been supporting act for some heavyweights, including Panic at the Disco, The Sea and Cake, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gang of Four, and Blonde Redhead.

Their third release, Bangs and Lashes, came out last October, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, and it was worth the wait. This record kicks the pop-indie-dance-jump-around-groove right from the start. Bryan and Eric performed a few songs in the studio for us, and told some great road stories, as well as how they are surviving the post-record label world. I love Bryan's voice. It reminds me a bit of a young Brian Ferry. There's a shoegazer sound to them that really gets my toes a-tappin'. I think you'll agree. It was so much fun having them perform in the studio, I can only imagine what they do live. Go see this band before they hit it HUGE. And they are going to hit it HUGE.

Scissors for Lefty are supporting Fritz Montana at the Great American Music Hall this Friday night. Tickets are still available. Go out and support live, local music. You can thank me later.

You can see by the playlist below that Monday night had a pretty sweet mix. Take a listen, and feel free to comment.

This coming Monday I'll be interviewing local band Girls and Boys in the first hour. Tune in.

Enjoy.

A Season in Hell #178: Blame it on the Bourgeosie

It's time that we let the women speak. It's mostly women-fronted tunes tonight, and an interview with Elizabeth Simon of Bourgeois Productions Presents, talking up what it takes to be a serious business woman in the world of music promotions.

I'm a huge supporter of live local music, and Elizabeth Simon is deep in the heart of it. Her production company Bourgeois Productions Presents promote some of the biggest local acts in the Bay Area, performing at the best venues today. We talk about her history in the music business, her upcoming shows, and why her dog is destroying the pillow on the couch behind her, and what she's going to do about it. Which in the end was nothing at all.

Tune in for the fun, including me being verbally assaulted by her dog.

A Season in Hell #148: You Had Me At No

I don't know what I was thinking. I really need to not be so far behind in posting my shows. Sorry about that. I guess life just gets in the way.

I've got a lot of local sounds in this show. Loop! Station, Liar and Birdsaw, feature the amazing vocal talents of Robin Coomer, and guitar gunslinger Eric McFadden.

The long set in the second hour is well worth putting your dancing shoes on for.

I've got too much awesome music to share with you. Tune in every Monday night, 8-10PM for more, more, MORE!!!

As always, enjoy!
