Sometimes when I'm hosting my show in the studio it actually feels like you are right there with me. I feel like I'm talking directly to you! I see you on the couch across from the console, watching me watching you, and I get excited to share my music with you, right then, right there.

That's how it felt on Monday night.

Starting off with the some contemporary genius' of the garage/punk world: Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall, both live from The Chapel in SF. These two tracks, back-to-back show you me current mood: kinetic and frenetic. I've got a lot of energy to shed and share.

Throughout the night it's a mix of old and new, punk, funk and junk. You know, just as always. And only two cover tunes this week!

I was considering hosting a power trio special, but I want to take a few more weeks to prepare. Stay tuned. I'm also reminded that November is coming, which means my 8th annual Annual Annual is right around the corner. Which year should I focus on this time around. If you want to see my previous Annual Annual shows take a look here. Scroll down that page and find the links you seek.

In the meantime I'm just going to relax and picture you on the couch in front of the console doing lovely and nasty things to yourself as I play DJ.

Enjoy.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #267: Election Night Special

Back on the air after a month away. I don't care to take so much time away from the aural pleasures that radio brings, but it had to be done. I traveled with my wife and daughter up to the great Northwest Territories! By that I mean Vancouver, Seattle and Portland.

I won't share the clusterfuck we got into at SFO when they wouldn't let my 11 year old daughter fly without a passport. Needless to say, we made it to all of our destinations, albeit about $1000 less in our pockets than I would have liked. ugh

We spent two days wandering around the EMP in Seattle. If you travel to that great town, please do your self a favor and go there. If you're a music fan, and I know that you are, you won't regret it.

Voodoo Donuts are overrated. There, I said it. Who the hell needs a Cap'n Crunch donut? Besides I live in San Francisco. We have Bob's. I do love me some Portland though. I will most likely retire there and start a radio station. HA!

On with the show.

The first hour pays homage to my late teens and early 20s. Spending time at the EMP inspired me to go back and listen to items on my shelf that may have collected a bit of dust.

The second hour is full of some tasty and rare surprises. A "new" Betty Davis LP issue of an oft-rumored Miles Davis-produced session was worth the wait. I have some new Melvins in there, as well as a number of live cuts from the likes of Tom Waits, Dave Bromberg, Allman Brothers.

I also blather on about the election, and croon about how much I love you.

Next Monday night, Little Lauson Hell makes an appearance. Tune in 8-10PM every Monday night!

I'm going to Bob's now.

Enjoy.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #246: Best of 2015

Stream the Best of my Best, HERE!

Listen into all my shows here, or just scroll down

Tonight it's my BEST OF 2015 show! I don't really trust these shows. It's really what the DJ enjoyed the most throughout the year. But isn't that the idea? You don't want to hear what the major media publications think was the best of the year. You want a seasoned DJ veteran, who has over 25 years of underground, eclectic radio experience to tell you what's best. Yes you do. And then you're going to go out and purchase all that music and go see those artists live in concert. Yes you are. You're going to share this list with your friends, and tell them how much better you are than them, because you know what's really the best, since you tune into such a hip and happening underground radio station, run by the DJs who are truly in the know. Yes we are!

Really though, this was an excellent year in music. Ty Segall had at least four releases, Wand had two; Dungen came out with their first release in seven years. Sleater Kinney came out with a great new record, their first in eight years. Swervedriver released their first LP in 17 years! There was some tasty local cuts that found room in the record stacks too. Queen Crescent, Shannon and the Clams, and Golden Void all graced the airwaves with new cuts in 2015.

This show nowhere scratches the surface of the best of the year, but it's a start. Tune into Radio Valencia throughout the month of December to hear what our many other fine, and experienced DJs have to offer up as their BEST OF 2015. Put it all together and you may just have the best of the best collection of what music was hot in a year that is quickly fading away.

Next Monday night will be my last show for the year. I'm taking December 28th off to go check out Dead and Co. at the Bill Graham Civic. The tour has sounded great. John Mayer doesn't suck as much as I thought he would. Huh, what do you think of that? I look forward to hearing what they have in store. I saw the Grateful Dead perform at the Civic a few times, between 1987-1988. After that, they got too big to perform in venues of that size. Too bad. So next Monday, being my last show of the year, I thought it wise and apropos to wrap up my celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead by playing two hours of LIVE DEAD!!! I know you want to hear that. and who could blame you, really? I've got plenty to play, so tune in 8-10PM (PDST) next Monday night, December 21st.

Have I told you lately how much I love radio?

Enjoy.

A Season in Hell #148: You Had Me At No

I don't know what I was thinking. I really need to not be so far behind in posting my shows. Sorry about that. I guess life just gets in the way.

I've got a lot of local sounds in this show. Loop! Station, Liar and Birdsaw, feature the amazing vocal talents of Robin Coomer, and guitar gunslinger Eric McFadden.

The long set in the second hour is well worth putting your dancing shoes on for.

I've got too much awesome music to share with you. Tune in every Monday night, 8-10PM for more, more, MORE!!!

As always, enjoy!

A Season in Hell #131: Slipping Away

OK, this is really late. Sorry about that. No guests tonight, just you and me and the beautiful music that has been made for me to share with you.

I open with brand new Mudhoney. This album rocks harder than their last few, and that's really saying something, as all of their albums ROCK HARD!

I also include some live Nick Cave from the show I attended a couple of weeks ago. SWEET!
