Hell's Kitchen Radio #488: God Save Radio Valencia

Take care of your back. Seriously, you really need to watch how you're treating it. And your head. And stay hydrated. You're getting older. This is the only life you have. You only die once. You need to keep this vessel of yours moving for a few more years. Take care of it.

I lost 30 pounds between April and September 2021. I really needed to. I had hit about 205 and knew that my body wasn't happy. My spirit was pretty solid, since I do my best to focus on things that bring me joy, but my body wasn't having it. I was packing away the calories. This isn't some commercial. I'm not going to talk about the program I used. You can comment here and I'll respond, but I'm just talking here about how important it is to maintain physical health, especially as the climate continues to worsen. We are going to need our bodies to be in the best shape as possible.

As for music, there's always music. And here's some really great music! I start out the show with some brand spankin' new King Gizzard. This 18+ minute track is a real barn-burner. Throughout the show I pepper in songs in celebration of Labor Day, which I also celebrate on May 1st, since that's the real Labor Day, as created here in the good ol' USofA!

There are a lot of "classics" during these two hours. Once you hear them you're going to be digging for more, and I can't blame you!

As of this writing, Queen Elizabeth II has died, and I could not care less! God Save the Queen my ass. Fuck Imperialism, and Fuck Colonialism. I don't believe in an afterlife, but if I did...

Enjoy and please share!

Spinning a two hour set is always a hoot for me, but having a co-host who meshes with my style, and also knows how to throw me a surprise of three is always a real pleasure. On Monday's show I was thrilled to have Radio Valencia's Gatsby Fassbinder, host of Tighten Up Your Wig, Thursday's 4-6PM. If you like my show you're going to love his. Like myself, Gatsby is a walking encyclopedia for all things that he knows he knows. His tracks are marked by "GB".

New music from Melvins side project, Crystal Fairy, featuring Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes. Also, new music from Meatbodies from their latest LP "Alice". A brand new 7" is out from Zig Zags that is more metal-y than previous tracks, but no less scary. A classic Iggy Pop/James Williamson track from "Kill City", a love song from Diamanda Galas, and the greatest fucking rock band of all time (next to the Melvins) SLEEP!

It's safe to say that tonight was all about the ROCK! The talk is cheap and so are we. Not much more to add. I'd prefer to allow the music do the rocking.

Enjoy.

After one week off, and spending time on the humidity East Coast, I am back in the saddle for two hours of heatseeking musical entertainment for your ear holes.

In the first hour I interviewed Dan Menapace, bassist for local prog-metal group Illogistical Resource Department. They have their second release out, "Transmission Cinema". Expect great thing from this veteran three-piece.

The second hour is chock full of craziness. Some recent releases, and some from my vast and deep library. Take a look at the playlist below.

Tonight I have Robin Coomer of Loop!Station and Shake Well on my show. She's funny, artistic, creative, and has a great face for radio. Tune in 8-10 on Radio Valencia.

Enjoy.

If you know me, then you know how much I absolutely LOVE supporting local bands. I've interviewed countless artists over the years, and their stories are too much fun. Monday night I was lucky enough to have two members of local indie scene-sters,  Scissors for Lefty with me. Bryan and Eric proved to be super friendly, and ready to talk about SfL's roller coaster ride of the past few years. This band is no flash in the pan. They've been supporting act for some heavyweights, including Panic at the Disco, The Sea and Cake, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gang of Four, and Blonde Redhead.

Their third release, Bangs and Lashes, came out last October, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, and it was worth the wait. This record kicks the pop-indie-dance-jump-around-groove right from the start. Bryan and Eric performed a few songs in the studio for us, and told some great road stories, as well as how they are surviving the post-record label world. I love Bryan's voice. It reminds me a bit of a young Brian Ferry. There's a shoegazer sound to them that really gets my toes a-tappin'. I think you'll agree. It was so much fun having them perform in the studio, I can only imagine what they do live. Go see this band before they hit it HUGE. And they are going to hit it HUGE.

Scissors for Lefty are supporting Fritz Montana at the Great American Music Hall this Friday night. Tickets are still available. Go out and support live, local music. You can thank me later.

You can see by the playlist below that Monday night had a pretty sweet mix. Take a listen, and feel free to comment.

This coming Monday I'll be interviewing local band Girls and Boys in the first hour. Tune in.

Enjoy.
