Spooky times are heating up at Radio Valencia. This is a good thing.

We had a really great fundraiser last Sunday. Huge thanks to GRHNS Gallery and Bernadette for hosting us. And thanks to the three great bands: Janky Band, Rustangs, and Fantasy for rockin' out hard for everyone. We couldn't have pulled this off without the incredible skill of San Francisco sound man extraordinaire John Karr and his assistant Ethan. And thanks to Sully and 21st Amendment Brewery for throwing us some suds to serve. And thanks to everyone who came out and those who donated online.

All in all it was a really fine day.

As for this show it's mighty extraordinary in its own right. I pulled out some spooky tracks and my trainee, Annika, has a bunch of 50s and 60s-era treats to share. Annika is going to be hosting her own show Fridays 6-8pm. Tune in. She has excellent taste in music, that fits in mighty well at Radio Valencia.

I also paid tribute to Ace Frehley of KISS, who passed away last week. KISS was my first favorite band. I tell the story in the show. Check it out!

We have a number of new shows starting right now. Are you interested in hosting a show with us? Send us a show proposal to station@radiovalencia.fm

What are your plans for Halloween? I'm headed to New Orleans with Spawn of Hell for a weekend of fun and frolics!

In the meantime, check out the playlist below, click the link at the top and enjoy.

Standing in the newly painted Radio Valencia studio really fills me with pride, and inspires me to put on a quality show for you all. That's not saying the other weeks were phoned in, it just feels like I walked into a brand new studio and I'm really jazzed about it.

Radio Valencia is a collection of jocks who have come together to play our favorite music for you. Some of us have been at this radio game a few decades now. RV has been going strong-ish since 2010. Having a storefront location this last year has been a huge boon for us, and we're now in a position to make the most of it; hence the facelift. Big thanks to the Tuesday night crew, Culturefest's Lilly and Joe. These two really went all out. I don't think the attached pictures do it justice, but they'll have to do. When I walked in Monday night I could have sworn the studio was actually bigger than before!

Sunday Streets on Valencia is July 10th. If you're in the area drop by and check out the studio. We're at

3227 22nd Street, between Mission and Valencia, next door to Make Out Room.

Tonight's show had a lot of emotion throughout it. New music from Emily Clark and Fanstastic Negrito. There's a 45th anniversary expanded edition Bob Marley, and a build up to this weekend's Mosswood Meltdown in the second hour. And George Carlin speaks about a timely issue beyond the grave.

How do I pack so much in? You'll just have to tune in Monday's 8-10PM PDST and find out.

Enjoy and please share.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #454: Kate and Eric Visit the New Studio

After careful consideration, and a close listen to my pre-Halloween show, I came to the decision that it just plane blew. Therefore, I have made the executive decision for a do-over. The first hour on Monday night was some sweet spooky tunes to keep the holiday spirit going. Pun intended.

To make this night even better, the second hour features not one, but two remarkable performers: Kate Vargas and Eric McFadden. If you have tuned into my show over the years, then you know Eric is a longtime friend, and always a great interview, always with fun stories to share. Tonight Eric is joined by singer/songwriter Kate Vargas. I've been playing the hell out of her recent release, Rumpumpo. The two of them have been hosting their weekly "From The Red Couch" shows since COVID began, and each week is a real treat.

Tonight we talk about how COVID has been treating them, writing and performing, and what stories mean to them. I really love interviewing songwriters; they always dig deeper to tell the more meaningful story. I think you'll agree.

Eric and Kate will be performing at Dark Cabaret at the Great Star Theater in Chinatown the last two

weekends in November. I have attended many times and can attest to how amazing this show is. Go to the site and poke around. Seriously, go see this show!!!

Kate is performing later in November at Amado's in the Mission, Sunday, November 21st.

OK, that's enough. Take a look at the playlist below, click the link at the top to stream or download this show, by tickets to the live shows, and get a damn life already.

Have you checked out any of our many great new shows on Radio Valencia? Go to the shows page and tune in when it fits your schedule. There is so much there to fit your awesome style. We wish we were as cool as you.

Enjoy.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #349: You're Suffering In It

If you find yourself face to face with Satan and you were asked what scares you most, what would you say? Would you claim the briar patch? Dark chocolate and caramel scare the bejeezus outta me! And cats. Soft, cuddly cats, who purr and want to sleep on my lap. *shiver* Don't even get me started about a shopping spree at my favorite local record stores. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

You think Satan would see right through that? Maybe they would turn my favorite things into something I would retch about later. Great! Maybe I'll spend eternity in time management workshops?

I bet I would get some really creative costume ideas if I spent some time in Hell. I feel like my costume vessel is pretty empty these days. A number of years ago I took the position that whatever you choose to be for Halloween you should be a dead version of it. I've been a dead hockey player, a dead judge, dead Jesus (cross and all. There's a longer story there), dead bartender, dead cab driver, dead hippy, and dead Deadhead.

Tonight I come to you as a very alive DJ. This week's show kind of writes itself. There is almost too many Halloween-themed songs out there to share. My job is to curate the perfect two-hour set for your enjoyment. I think I get close. It's scary and silly enough to keep you interested, and I even try my hand at delivering a few mic breaks in verse.

Don't be afraid of the afterlife, when life is scary enough. These are trying times my friends. We need to hold one another closer than ever before. And please remember to VOTE next Tuesday, November 6th. The future of our world is really depending on you. I recommend you vote Democrat (I'm Independent) to balance out the branches at the federal level. Trump doesn't need a blank check.

Enjoy.
