Fun show tonight with special guest, local comedian Bert Divietri. This guy is off his rocker. He played some prank calls for us, and was an all around freak-a-zoid. I'll have him back for sure.
We were also graced with the presence of guitar maverick Eric McFadden. He owed me a favor. No, really, he did. That's the only way I can get anyone on my show anymore. It's just short of extortion. Anyway, Eric ROCKS! He told some great road stories from his recent tour with Eric Burdon and the Animals, as well as updates on T.E.N., featuring bassist Norwood Fisher (Fishbone) and drummer Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta).
You really shouldn't waste your time on streaming this one here.
I would pass up on downloading this one here.
I don't recommend you click here to listen to all of my shows, or just scroll down. I wouldn't do it.

A Season in Hell #115: Best of 2012
Well, here we go again. Can you believe it's already been a year?!?!
There was so much great music this past year. I have to admit, I really love this particular show. Every year I get to showcase what I believe to be the best music of the year, and this year there are some choice cuts to choose from.
If you listen to my show regularly, then you know that I jump around from genre to genre. Tonight my show features a lot of pop, some metal, some psych. There's no jazz or hip-hop in my list for tonight. That doesn't mean there weren't some fabulous tracks out there, just that none of them really struck my fancy enough to feature them in my Best of 2012. Don't be a hater. There will be plenty of hip hop and jazz in upcoming shows.
In the meantime, enjoy the show, and spread it around, and for God's sake, go buy some of this great music, and support live, local music every chance you get!
You can download this Best of, and take it with you everywhere you go.
You can stream this awe-inspiring showcase, and play it for your friends at work.
Perhaps you wish to listen to all of my shows, click here, or just scroll down.
As always, enjoy.

A Season in Hell #102: Last Chance for Love
Well, here it is, the last night at Chez Poulet, our home for the first two years of Radio Valencia. Talk about punk rock! I'd like to thank Chicken John for his "hospitality". When he came to me two years asking if I would start a radio station here I told him as long as it didn't become "Radio Chicken". So, we're moving. I wonder why? Really though, we've just outgrown the space. All the best to Chicken and all of his endeavors. In the memorable words of the late, great Don Corleone "as long as your business doesn't conflict with mine".
For my last show until my next show next week at our new home, I thought I would do what I like to do best, play lots of new kick ass music in the first hour, and some slammin' tracks in the second, along with some priceless live cuts. Check out the playlist, below.
Here we go again for the last time.

A Season in Hell #98: Movin' On Up
No guests tonight, though I did have a young lady in the studio who has an interest in all things art and entertainment. I really do enjoy talking to people about why radio is so awesome. Also, had a visit from Feast from FCCFreeRadio. I recruited Feast for that station a long time back. He's also on KFJC under another moniker: Dominic Trix.
As for music, Sherman Hemsley died last week, and who knew he was a pothead, and liked LSD and progressive rock? Also some brand new Redd Kross on vinyl because they ROCK!!! When I was standing in Aquarius Records this afternoon holding this LP, one of the employees said to me "that record rocks!". If an AQ employee tells you a record rocks, and they're not even asked, then you purchase that record, no questions asked. Got it?
I offer up a small 70th birthday tribute to Jerry Garcia with some acoustic solo performance, and some live Iron Maiden you won't find anywhere else. It's the 50th birthday of the Rolling Stones so I thought I'd throw in some very old Stones from 64. Good stuff here.
You really need to support live music. I've got a band for you: Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers. They are too much fun. Near the end of the show I play a cover of "You're No Good". If you don't know about Nicki Bluhm, then you need to check out The Van Sessions. You can thank me later.

A Season in Hell #84: Pigpen Offers Advice
Week 2/8 in my celebration of the Grateful Dead's epic Europe 72 tour. It's been 40 years, and these shows really do stand the test of time.
Tonight I'm playing selections from 04/14/72, Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen, Denmark, and 04/16/72, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark.
It was pretty hard to decide what to play tonight. As of this writing I'm still not totally certain what I'm going to throw on. At first I was totally prepared to play the Good Lovin' jam from 04/14/72. But then I listened to the Truckin' jam from 04/16 and I threw everything out of the window. Now I'm thinking of playing Mr. Charlie and Big Boss Man from the 14th, and the Truckin' jam from the 16th. WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!?
I know, I could play them both, but I really don't want my entire show to be the Dead. As much as I love them, I'm also into sharing new music with you all, and I've found some wonderful new tunes to share.
No worries. I'll have it all figured out by showtime. I hope...er, I think. Let me know what you think.
Next week selections from 04/17/72 and 04/21/72.

A Season in Hell #83: Radio Valencia: Get on the Bus
40 years ago this week the Good ol' Grateful Dead embarked upon a mythical tour of Europe that would be encapsulated in a three LP set, "Europe 72". I've had this vinyl since I was a wee lad, and pretty much wore all three LPs out within a year of owning it. Thank God for CDs.
I started collecting bootlegs in the early 80s, and the Dead were the main band I searched for. This was long before the internet. I remember looking in the back of Relix Magazine for taper lists, and mailing away for their list. Then, once received I would mail them tapes and a list of what I wanted. The anticipation of receiving those tapes was almost unbearable.
When it comes to collecting bands like the Grateful Dead, it's all about the tour and the era. There was so much that was hard to find; so many Holy Grails.
Europe 72 is one of these.
22 history-defining shows.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of this tour the second hour of my next eight shows will feature some blistering tracks from almost every show. I have them all, save 04/07/72, which I've only heard a crappy audience of. I have soundboards of the rest of the tour and it's AMAZING!!!
Tonight I've got 04/08/72 and 04/11/72 cued up and ready to ROCK.
Stream this fine show here.

A Season in Hell #81: Radio Valencia: Daughter of Hell

It's Spring Break, so I thought it would be a perfect night to bring my 7 year old daughter Lauson, into the studio for my show. She chose a set of music. Here's a hint, what songs would I NEVER play on the air? She's a bit nervous, but who can blame her? Radio is a viscous lover. Wish her luck. She's going to need it.
