Sometimes taking a week off is great for recharging my creative juices. Radio is an artform. You think you could do this? Well, actually you probably could. It's not brain surgery. If you tune in regularly, then you know that I like mixing up genres, and tonight is a perfect example. Garage, grunge, proto-punk, LA punk, Americana, Experimental, and too many more for my brain to consider right now.

I add some tasty live treats in there for the special sauce, and you get two hours of the finest audio stew your earbuds can handle.

I sprinkle in my share of covers and some local Bay Area faves too! My goodness there's something here for everybody, including your retched GOP uncle. You should really kick him in the head when you get a chance.

Speaking of the election, you are registered aren't you? Get registered, get your ballot, fill it out, and get it in ASAP!!! And sign that damn thing!!!

VOTE!!!!

So, I think I'm getting the hang of this shelter-at-home thing. I have more music playing than usual, and I'm actually getting along with my family! Who knew that bonding with family is actually a thing?

And when it comes to hosting my weekly show, Hell's Kitchen Radio, on Radio Valencia, I have more time to go through my collection to choose music I think you'll enjoy. This show was fairly diverse, and a lot of fun to put on for you.

I was reminded the other day that May 3rd is fast approaching, which means another James Brown birthday special is due. Many of you know I am a huge JB fan, and I co-host the annual KFJC 26 hour James Brown birthday special "Doin' It To Death", every year on his May 3rd birthday. Alas, this year, the special is not happening; a TRAVESTY!

But do not be alarmed, this Monday night, 8-10PM (PDST) I will be playing two hours of James Brown and James Brown-related material. So get your funky dance shoes ready to groove. Get on with your bad self, because John Hell will have you gettin' up on the get down Monday night at 8.

As for this show, take a look at the playlist below and enjoy.

If you're on the podcast page on Radio Valencia, then you will notice the little white dice on the green field. If you click it, you will be taken to a random show of mine. Go ahead, click the dice, take the ride. Thanks to my boy, Wrybread, for putting that together.

Enjoy.

Hell's Kitchen Radio #279: Trick AND Treat

It was a Halloween sPoOkTacUlaR show tonight. I'm not much on holiday themes, but something about this aprticular holiday inspires me to go the extra mile. You can't say that John Hell ever phones it in!

Tonight features some of my favorite spooky treats, along with two new tunes from two of my favorite ladies. Phat Man Dee sent me a track that is perfectly scary as well as apropos for the 2016 election cycle. If you don't get the willies from "Fourth Reich Rising" then perhaps you're dead already. Good for you!

Queen delphine has been building up her stage chops for a couple of years now and this Cramps cover has certainly shown that she's not too shy to put a bug in your ear (oh good lord will the puns ever stop?). "Human Fly" is will put a buzz in your ear and make you think twice before you pull out that can of Raid. Eric McFadden on guitar. I posted the video at the bottom of the page.

The rest of the show is full of horror movie themes, spooky spoken word, and very dark magic. It's just what Hell ordered.

The holidays are officially upon us, and the election is just days away. Time to run screaming!

Enjoy.
