Joining me tonight is TradeMark G of Evolution Control Committee (and co-founder of RV) is in the studio for the first time in over 3 years!!! Trademark is the Godfather of the Mashup! That's a good thing, right? I think so. He hosted "Sound of Plaid" on Radio Valencia since our inception back in August 2010, and he promises to be making a comeback soon. We hope so. TM and his bride, Miss Frilly Pants moved back to Columbus, Ohio a few years back, and life just hasn't been the same for us Mashup freaks in da Bay. At least TM finished his masters degree. Way to go, brother!

The music was great tonight, but you really need to listen to his stories, between the tracks. TM is a great storyteller, and WHAT A VOICE! This guy has a real future in radio, if he wants it. My fondest live performance of ECC involved the Thimbletron. I've posted a video below, I think you'll enjoy.

Enjoy.

A Season in Hell #87: MCA Meets Jerry Garcia

There are some moments in life when you really just have to ask yourself why? This is one of those moments. MCA of the Beastie Boys died last week of Salivary Gland cancer at the age of 47. WTF?!?!?

License to Ill came out when I was a junior in high school. I remember not liking it at first. I thought of the Beasties as a trip of whiny white boys. I also thought they were pretending to be from NYC, and that they were actually from Iowa, or somewhere very white bread. I was happy to be proven wrong. After a few listens the record (yes, an actual vinyl LP, kids) really grew on me. It was obvious that these three true to the early hiphop form. Paul's Boutique solidified my love and respect for the Beastie Boys. Oh those beautiful samples. Miles Davis loved that record. Chuck D of Public Enemy was quoted as saying that everyone in hiphop and rap at that time knew that Paul's Boutique was the BEST record of it's time. That's pretty good props.

Tonight I'll the first hour will feature some of my favorite Beastie Boys tracks throughout the years.

Hour two is week five of eight of my tribute to the Grateful Dead's Europe 72 tour. Tonight I've got an awesome Lovelight I want to share with you.

See the setlist below.
