So here we are, four years later, and another election where we tell ourselves "this is the most important election of our lives". And yet I think it is. Let's go into Tuesday with our hopes held high, regardless of the outcome. No matter who wins we have a lot of work to do. Get involved in this great American experiment. Get to have a working knowledge of the US Constitution, as well as your state Constitution. Know who your elected representatives are and hold them accountable, regularly.

If you're going to be watching the results tonight, please be wary of the "blue mirage". Most mail-in ballots are from Democrats, so it's going to look like Biden is in the lead and will win the state, just to have much of that lead disappear once the election day-cast ballots are counted.

Take a deep breath, it's going to be a long night.

I'm going to be watching North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin. These are the states that can throw the election from one candidate to the other.

There's more I could say about this (and I have to my students), but you're an adult, and you know we have to be patient.

Enjoy the ride.

I admit it, I have a serious crush on Garage/Psych rocker Ty Segall. In the past 10+ years he has taken the garage rock revival by storm, and continues to reinvent himself with each successive release. He's known for releasing something new, whether on a 7", LP, or even cassette(why???) every few months, with a rotating cast of very talented characters, mostly including guitarist/drummer Charles Moothart and bassist Mikal Cronin.

Honestly, I could have used another two solid hours to showcase his music.

Segall left San Francisco a few years back after he acknowledged that artists couldn't not afford to live in a city that is quickly becoming the playground for the rich. Heading back to his birthplace, SoCal, he set up a new home studio and committed to producing quality rock 24/7. He hasn't let us down.

On this show I try my best to present his music in a chronological order, but because of time constraints I couldn't include each release of his over his short but prolific career. Take this as a snapshot of a genius in the making.

I also take the opportunity to talk about the California propositions for the November 6th ballot. How did you vote? Even if you aren't happy with the outcome, please stay involved in politics. We need every voice to count.

Enjoy.

Well....shit. Not really certain what to say. Monday's show featured an interview with a great group of fellas from the band Savage People, promotion this Sunday's first ever SF Punk-Metal Flea Market at the DNA Lounge, 375 11th Street, SF, 1-8PM. It's free and there are some great vendors scheduled to table the event. You really have to attend. More info here. See you there. I'll have my 12 year old daughter in tow.

The rest of the show was all about the election. You remember the election? It was Tuesday? It was fucking shit. You remember that? Do you remember your dreams? You remember those, right? You remember believing in all of those polls that Nate Silver told us to believe in? I wonder how well he's going to be sleeping from here on out. Truth be told, I truly do not think that Drumpf wants to, nor believes he ever would be elected President. I'm not joking. I really feel that he did everything in his power NOT to be elected. What does that tell you about Clinton and the DNC?

And would Bernie have actually been elected? Who knows.

Here's what I posted on my Facebook wall this morning:

"I want to reevaluate how I'm going to approach the next four years. I want to pay more attention to the things that I love, and the things that I have the power to improve. I want to recommit to the people that I love. I want to hold you all close, closer than ever before. I want to find the beauty in everything, including Trump. I want the best for all of us, while still fighting for what I believe to be the path towards truth. I refuse to live in denial, but I also refuse to wallow in misery, self-doubt, and blaming. I want you there with me. I love you all."

Below is my playlist for election night. It tells a story. See if you can figure out the moral.

Enjoy.

A Season in Hell #62: Radio Valencia: Talkin' Election Night Blues

Once again it's election time. I tell ya, in San Francisco the freaks come out on Election Night. Per usual I'll be hosting United Educators of San Francisco's and SFUSD Social Studies teacher Ken Tray on my show. This is perhaps the third year in a row that he has co-hosted the pre-election day show with me. We'll be talking about the ballot initiatives as well as the hotly contested mayors race (when isn't it hotly contested in this town?), sheriff's race and DA's race.

I've got lots of election-themed music as well.

Here's the link to the podcast.

Enjoy.

A Season in Hell #53: Radio Valencia: SF Mayoral Candidate John Avalos

It's election time once again in the city by the bay, which means lots of posturing for the many candidates. It's funny, in this town the Republican party has to endorse the most right-leaning Democrat. Ha! Tonight I have District 11 SF Supervisor, and mayoral candidate John Avalos. John is THE progressive candidate this time around. His background is in education and grass roots work with local non-profits. I didn't hold back. Enjoy the interview.
